Dr. Steven H. Brown
Steven H. Brown, MD is a board-certified colon-rectal surgeon who specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases and disorders of the colon, rectum, and anus. From colon cancer prevention to the management of a variety of bowel and anorectal disorders.
My Story
Dr. Brown prides himself on maintaining current with the state-of-the-art techniques and advances in his chosen field. He has extensive experience with colon cancer screening techniques and the management of simple and advanced anorectal conditions. Dr. Brown individualizes his care to the specific needs of his patient realizing the sensitive nature of many of these disorders.
Dr. Brown graduated from Union College in Schenectady, New York and attended Jefferson Medical College (now Sidney Kimmel Medical College) of Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He completed his general surgery residency at the University of Connecticut, followed by a fellowship in Colon and Rectal Surgery at Orlando Regional Medical Center. He is board-certified in both General Surgery and Colon and Rectal Surgery. He is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons.
For 25 years he was a partner at Colon & Rectal Surgeons of Greater Hartford, LLC, involved in the training of surgical residents and fellows in colon and rectal surgery. He served as program Director of the fellowship training program from 2013-2019.
Dr. Brown has surgical privileges at The Hospital of Central Connecticut in New Britain. He is an Assistant Clinical Professor of Surgery at the University of Connecticut Medical School as well as Assistant Professor of Surgery at the Netter School of Medicine at Quinnipiac University.
Dr. Brown has a philosophy of treating patients like members of the family. He strives to provide superior care for his patients. He was honored as Humanitarian of the year in 2018 by the Connecticut chapter of the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation. He is excited to bring his experience to Connecticut Colon & Rectal Surgery, LLC.

Dr. Christina Czyrko
Christina Czyrko, MD is a board-certified colon-rectal surgeon who started her own private practice, Connecticut Colon & Rectal Surgery, LLC. Dr. Czyrko specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases and disorders of the colon, rectum, and anus. From colon cancer prevention to the management of a variety of bowel and anorectal disorders.
My Story
Dr. Czyrko is well-known for her dedication and expertise in providing treatment and services for a variety of anorectal and colon disorders that commonly present with rectal bleeding and rectal pain such as but not limited to painful hemorrhoids, anal fissures, anal fistulas, embarrassing bowel leakage, and nonspecific digestive related symptoms of bloating, constipation, diarrhea, and food intolerances. In addition, Dr. Czyrko has vast experience with colon cancer screening including colonoscopy. Dr. Czyrko focuses on restorative approaches for her patients by providing individualized management that can often be treated non-surgically.
Dr. Czyrko focuses on functional outcomes that include accurate diagnoses, treatment plans that give patient options with both medical and surgical approaches and addressing nutritional components to common bowel disorders. Recently, Medtronic, a leading health care provider in neuromodulation therapy, acknowledged Dr. Czyrko as a designated physician in the field of bowel incontinence.
Dr. Czyrko graduated from Fordham University in New York and attended the University of Tel Aviv Medical School in Israel. She completed her general surgery residency at the New York Medical College, followed by a fellowship in Colon and Rectal Surgery at the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio. She is board-certified in both General Surgery and Colon & Rectal Surgery and recently completed recertification in both fields. In 1997, Dr. Czyrko started her own private practice, Connecticut Colon & Rectal Surgery, LLC, and is currently still one of the very few private practices in the state of Connecticut. Dr. Czyrko has surgical privileges at The Connecticut Surgery Center in Farmington, CT as well as The Hospital of Central Connecticut on both the New Britain and Bradley Campuses. In addition to actively welcoming and treating patients at her practice, she is an Assistant Clinical Professor of Surgery at the University of Connecticut Medical School as well as Assistant Professor of Medicine at the Netter School of Medicine at Quinnipiac University.

Dr. Maria Christina Mirth
Maria Christina Mirth, MD has been practicing community-based colon and rectal surgery since 1992. She has vast experience in the medical and surgical management of colon and rectal cancers, inflammatory bowel disease, fecal incontinence, screening and diagnostic anoscopy and colonoscopy, and the diagnosis and treatment of benign and malignant anorectal disorders such as hemorrhoids, anal fissures, fistulas, and proctitis.
In the early 1990’s she developed algorithms for the diagnosis and treatment of pelvic floor disorders, especially fecal incontinence. She was offering sacral nerve stimulation testing in 2009, when it became FDA approved for fecal incontinence.
Dr. Mirth is a strong advocate for patients, especially in the field of health care costs, high deductible relief, and fair pricing of pharmaceuticals.
Dr. Mirth graduated Magna Cum Laude from Barnard College, Columbia University in New York and received her medical degree from Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York City, graduating in 1986. She completed her general surgery residency at the SUNY Health Science Center-University Hospital in Syracuse, New York followed by a fellowship in Colon & Rectal Surgery at the Saint Vincent Health Medical Center in Erie, PA. Dr. Mirth is board-certified in both Colon & Rectal Surgery and General Surgery and participates in maintenance of certification (MOC) in both disciplines.
Dr. Mirth has surgical privileges at The Connecticut Surgery Center in Farmington, CT as well as The Hospital of Central Connecticut at both the New Britain and Bradley Campuses.
